High Five for Friday 7.5.13

All day long I’ve had no regard whatsoever for what day of the week it is, but when I stopped to think, I realized: IT’S FRIDAY. So here we go.

1. I’m home!!!!! Thanks to a last-minute decision to ride to Atlanta with an awesome friend from Nashville, I spent the 4th in McDonough, and I get the whole super long weekend with my family. That five-hour road trip and the conversation that accompanied it were a blessings in themselves, and I even got to see the mountains. And on the other end of that road trip was my family. And my dog.

I call that success in highest form.

2. If you’ve known me for any period of time, you know that I get this crazy thrill out of surprising people. I LOVE the looks on people’s faces when they’re TOTALLY not expecting something, and then it’s right in front of them. In this particular instance, I decided not to tell my grandparents or my great aunt that I was coming home for the holiday weekend, so when they arrived at our house for the 4th of July festivities, I ran and hid.

Even if the rest of this weekend was terrible (which I assure you, it hasn’t been and won’t be), their reactions made packing a bag at one AM and embarking on a four-hour trek the next day so worth it.

3. Nothing beats seeing my best friend at home. Seriously. I had a pizza date with Tori today, and I didn’t realize how very much I’d missed her until I was squealing and hugging her in front of Mellow Mushroom. I’m not even sorry for that commotion.

A true friend understands my constant need to make strange faces.

4. I have a family that showers me with love. And food.

They even accept my dorky side.

5. I’ve decided that I’m going to save up and buy a mandolin. I’m developing an addiction to learning how to play new musical instruments. Just another one of the 1,507,396 reasons I’m in love with Nashville.

Happy Friday, everybody. I hope your Friday is as wonderful as mine, because truly, I’m walkin’ on sunshine these days.

High Five for Friday 5.3.12

Wow, it’s been quite a while since I last posted. But today I finished my second year of college, and I think that’s reason enough to have a High Five for Friday post. Do you agree?

1. We had our last chapter of the semester on Monday, which was of course quite sad, but  we had a chapter theme of “This summer I will be…” so I decided to have fun with it and dress up as a “hipster intern.” I love my sisters and I’ll miss them so much this summer, but several of them have already said they’re coming to visit. I’m going to hold them to that, so if any of you are reading this, don’t go backing out on me 🙂

2. I’M DONE. WITH SCHOOL. For now anyway. I had my last final exam this morning, and I am now officially halfway through with college. Time flies right?

3. Technically, I still have one “school” thing to do before I leave town, but it’s not really your traditional assignment. Intrigued? Yeah, you should be. My last school thing is to play a show– yes, a musical show– at the Melting Point for the MBUS MayDay Festival. Did you ever think I’d be playing music that I wrote on a real venue stage in the cool town of Athens, Georgia? ME NEITHER. But it is indeed happening on Sunday at 1:30 PM, and my name is on this cool-looking poster as proof.

4. Because of that whole music festival thing, my mom and my Aunt Michelle are coming to Athens tomorrow morning! Woohoo! Some more of my friends and family are coming to see me play on Sunday, but I get to spend all day tomorrow showing my little college town off to Mom and Aunt Mic.

5. I’m moving to Nashville in nine days. Wait, WHAT?! I’m moving to my dream city in NINE DAYS?!? Yes, yes indeed. The countdown is in single digits, and I couldn’t be more excited. A new friend started a blog specifically to chronicle his summer in Nashvegas, and he inspired me to start blogging here again, so I’m sure I’ll be posting on a regular basis. Why not, right? Music City, here I come!

High Five for Friday 12.21.12

High Five for Friday is BAAAACCCKKKKK. Welcome 🙂

1. Last Saturday, Mom took me to a cute restaurant in Locust Grove that I didn’t know existed. They had some good food and a quaint little shop too.

2. I’m home, and it’s almost Christmas!

3. I’ve spent time this week with several people I haven’t seen in a while, mainly friends from high school and my grandparents. My PawPaw even took me to a feed and seed store that gets a TON of candy this time of year, and I loved exploring all their sweets (and their quilt patterns!). I’ve finally had time to slow down and enjoy the simple things.

4. On Wednesday I went to see Carrie Underwood and Hunter Hayes with Shelby and Alex. It was loud and fantastic. I’ll be writing out a full show review for it on my other blog soon!

5. I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday, so I’m using my recovery time to do some crochet, watch country music videos, and anything else I don’t have time for when I’m on the run any other time. I’m also trying really hard to find hilarity in the crazy swollen shape of my face… hehe.

High Five for Friday 10.5.12

It’s Friday, and as I look back on the past few weeks, I can’t believe I’ve gotten so many things done. It’s been a crazy ride, but life is quite good.

1. Last Saturday, my lovely sisters all came out to the Myers quad for our Sigma Alpha Omega tailgate! Food, friends, and football– always an excellent combination!

2. Carlota, Ashley, and I went to watch Up on Tuesday night. It was a nice break from the craziness of real life, and who doesn’t love Dug?!

3. I’m loving my internship at the radio station. I’ve learned some about how to work the board, and I’m also getting to see a lot of the production and technical side of radio. I came into this internship knowing absolutely nothing about radio and its operations, but after only two weeks I can already tell it’s going to be awesome!

4. Last night, my Music Business team put on a benefit concert for Nuci’s Space. Everything was student coordinated and student-run, and I liked getting that experience. I love MBUS in general, and I’m so glad it’s led me to meet all of these incredible people.

5. Today I put together a vacuum cleaner (with help from Codie). And I also ate not just one, but two bowls of ECV’s Friday salad. And it was delicious. I think that makes for a solid afternoon.

High Five for Friday 9.14.12

This morning I wished a friend a happy Friday, and he replied with “H54F,” and I realized I haven’t actually done a post in forever…

But there’s no time like the present to get back on the wagon!

1. Snelling. Monday night. Late night studying. Actually studying turned into laughing at everything and nothing. I just love my friends.

2. I’m so excited to say that this semester I’ll be a student intern with 106.1 WNGC, the country radio station of North Georgia! I’ll be working with the people who operate the station as well as a few other stations that are part of Cox Media Group. I know basically nothing about radio, and I couldn’t be more happy about the opportunity to learn through a little experience!

3. Along the same lines as my internship, I’m LOVING my music business classes. Everyone who works in the MBUS office is super chill, and I actually like showing up to class because we always have a good time in class, and I’m passionate about the subject matter. Right now we’re in the middle of a group project of planning a benefit concert for Nuci’s Space, a local musicians’ resource center. Coolest group project I’ve ever done, hands down.

4. Sigma Alpha Omega recruitment is over and our lovely Iota class got their bids last week! I loved recruitment, and now I’m excited to start to get to know these ladies. We had our first sisterhood social of the year last night! We played a game of trivia in teams and had some snacks 🙂 I had a good time, and I hope my sisters did too! I’m blessed every day by the family I’ve found in them, and I can’t imagine where I’d be without them!

5. I don’t think I’ve eaten a meal alone this week at all, with maybe one or two exceptions. It’s just been working out that I can hang out with people while I eat, and I love it. I’m grateful to have so many wonderful people in my life to spend time with 🙂

High Five for Friday 8.3.12

Even though it’s technically Saturday morning, I’ll still consider this to be Friday. It’s been quite action packed, just like the rest of the week!

1. Yet again, I got to catch up with so many people from home this week. I’ve seen friends who have been scattered all over the place for most of the summer, and I also visited with my favorite teacher from high school and her family. I may get annoyed with it sometimes, but I guess the HCo will always be my home…

2. On Thursday I had a really productive day. I ran some errands and took care of things that needed to get done before I head back to Athens. Productivity and efficiency just makes me happy.

3. I GOT TO SEE VICTORIA TODAY. We went to Ikea and talked about life, and shopped of course. We’re on the same continent, in the same state, and today we were in the same store. And in a week we’ll be at the same school again. EXCITED!

4. I went to the Braves game with my family tonight! Love me some baseball. It was a good last celebration before school gets started up again. It was Star Wars night at Turner Field, and that of course only added to the entertainment of the evening. AND there were intense fireworks after the game. I’d call that a successful evening in the ATL.

5. After the aforementioned Braves game, we were stuck in the parking lot for quite some time. For those who don’t know, I write music from time to time. Although I’m not really that good at it, I did put my limited skills to good use while we were waiting. This could easily be the overall highlight of my week solely because we laughed until we cried while writing it. Click here to watch our performance inspired by rain and a parking lot, entitled “Drowned Rats.” Enjoy!

High Five for… Monday! 7.30.12

Well, I obviously missed High Five for Friday last week, but it’s only Monday, so I don’t think it’s too late to celebrate the high points of the past week– plus a few days… just go with it 🙂

1. I voted last week! It made me feel like an adult. I can’t decide if I like that feeling or not. But after I voted I spent a relaxing day with my grandparents. I made strawberry fig preserves with my Grammy! I love going to their house when I have time to just chill out and be with them.

2. I made an A in my summer biology class! WOO HOO! I couldn’t help but be excited when I found out! Grady, here comes a new Public Relations major (hopefully)! Can’t wait!

3. I’ve had the opportunity to see and catch up with numerous friends here in Henry County and from GHP over the past week. I went to band camp Thursday night and got to see the marching band’s progress so far with their fundamentals and drill, and it was also wonderful to see all those who were underclassmen when I graduated as they’ve risen up and become leaders. It just goes to show that I may leave the marching band, but it’ll never really leave me. I’ll always be thankful for that experience, the friends it brought me to, and the things it taught me.

4. I’ve been doing a few little projects for room decorations, and today I conquered some DIY framing! The Nashville print’s frame is a cool little floating frame that I found on sale at Michael’s this weekend. I bought the two big frames and a whole 32 x 40 sheet of matte today at Hobby Lobby, and I cut the matte myself to frame my Opry posters. Not too shabby for DIY if I do say so myself! Can’t wait to put all this swag in my new room/our new place in Athens, which we’ll move into (continued in number 5)…

5. … IN LESS THAN A WEEK! Sweet! I think all of the details are falling into place (or will be soon), and pretty soon we’ll be moved in and ready to start a brand new year!

High Five for Friday 6.15.12

Glad I remembered to do this 35 minutes before Friday is technically over… oops!

1. Well, the wedding happened! And it was quite a wonderful weekend for all involved. I can’t even believe how blessed I am to have the family and friends that I have. Things may change, but I know they’ll always be there for me, and I’m aware now more than ever of just how much of a blessing they are to me. I wouldn’t be anywhere without my family, and I know some aren’t fortunate enough to be close to their extended family, and that makes me that much more grateful for the closeness in my own family. We’re all so excited to welcome Nick and his family into ours!

There are SO many pictures on my Facebook, but since I had to pick just one to put here, I think this one is appropriate 🙂

2. I’ve done so much musically this week. I’ve spent a lot of quality time with both my guitar and my piano, and I can’t even begin to say how much it helps. Sometimes life is just a little weird, and I had forgotten how sweet it is to get lost in music. It’s also nice to see myself improving… I can almost play barre chords with a decent sound on my guitar. Sweet!

3. I went shopping for some apartment things this week! I got some pillows, and some other random decorations for my room. Moving in with my roomies will make me feel like an adult… yeah that’s weird.

4. Yesterday I went to Starbucks and got a lot of biology work done. Productivity is always a plus. Makes me feel better about myself! That might warrant the #OCDProblems hashtag…

5. Tori and I went to Athens today! She had to take a math placement test, so I tagged along and we had some adventure time after her test. I’ve missed the Classic City, so it was good to be back for the day. I got to see several friends and I also got to go to my favorite place ever, none other than Two Story Coffeehouse! I don’t think coffee has ever tasted so good! I can’t wait to see our many more adventures once T. Riggs is in Athens next year!

High Five for Friday 6.8.12

So, when this post goes live, I’ll be living it up in the whirlwind of pre-wedding activities! Katy’s getting married TOMORROW!!! I’ve spent my week trying to prep for this weekend, and it’s finally here!!!

1. I did a whole other post on it, but I went to Sigma Alpha Omega’s National Convention last weekend, and it was wonderful. By the way, since it’s “out” now, I can say this: WE’RE HOSTING CONVENTION NEXT YEAR!!! I can’t wait for a celebration of our Savior and our sisterhood in the Classic City in 2013!

The Mu Chapter ladies at Convention!

2. Except for taking the test, I’ve officially finished one unit of my biology class! Woo hoo! I can’t wait until it’s over and I’ll never have to take a science class again. Yessss.

3. I had a rather eye-opening conversation with a good friend this week. Sometimes it takes another set of eyes to see what’s truly going on, and that’s exactly what happened. I’m so grateful that God blessed me with the friends I have now. I don’t know where I’d be without them.

4. THE CMT MUSIC AWARDS WERE ON LAST NIGHT!!! I watched them all the way through, including the red carpet show with Evan Farmer and Katie Cook. I of course tweeted the entire way through, and when it was all said and done I had sent about 70 tweets over the course of three hours. What can I say, country music and social media are two of my favorite things. When they get together, well, my tweeting just can’t be contained. OH, and speaking of Evan Farmer (he’s the host of CMT’s Top 20 Countdown), he tweeted me back today, which is really cool. I hope I’ll get to meet him sometime; he seems like a pretty cool dude.

So, this is the second time he’s replied when I tweeted something at him, which I think is awesome. How many celebrities do you know of who actually take the time to do that??? Can’t wait to read his book… it’s on its way from Amazon and should be here when I get back home on Sunday. Sweet!

5. Just to celebrate this weekend, here’s a lovely picture of the soon-to-be-happily-married couple, Nick and Katy. In a little over 24 hours from this post, Miss Katy K. will become Mrs. Katy May! Can I get an “AWWW??”

By the way, this was taken last July at the place where they’re getting married. Here we are almost a whole year later, and it’s all coming full circle!

High Five for Friday 5.25.12

It’s the last day of school in the HCO!! It’s also about 97 degrees outside. Welcome to Georgia summer, where just looking out the window makes you sweat.

1. I have successfully laid out in the sun TWICE this week without getting burnt. That’s an accomplishment right there!

2. I had lunch with Melissa this week, and we explored the McDonough square afterward. We went to my favorite used bookstore and to a few other places. I miss my little town and the people I’ve grown up with here.

3. Between last weekend in Nashville (which was awesome, by the way– expect another post on it specifically soon!) and going to the bookstore on the square with Melissa, I now have a decent little reading list started. I’m glad I actually have time to read for pleasure this summer. I need time to slow down.

4. I went to cheer on my little brother as he walked to the high school today. He’ll be a freshman next year! Look out, UG, Little Windom is coming!!!

5. Tonight I’ll watch several of my friends graduate and move on to the next chapter of their lives. I can’t wait for them to turn this page, and I also can’t believe it’s been a full year since I was in their shoes. It’s crazy how time flies. Congratulations to the Class of 2012!
